The ceremony will take place on 24th June 2007 at 11.00 AM, in the Sanctuary of the Crucifix in Nemi.
The sanctuary was built in 1637, for the master of Nemi of the time, Mario Frangipane. The building is adjacent to the monastery that once belonged to the Franciscans and belongs now to the Mercedaries.
Initially the chapel of the monastery was dedicated to the Holy Mary of Versacarro, a town nearby. Then the monastery was dedicated to the Holy Crucifix. This was because here it was hanged a wooden Crucifix made by Vincenzo from Bassiano. According to the legend the monk, since he had not be able to finish the face of the Crucifix accurately, decided to pray before going to sleep. When he woke up the following morning he realised that the face of the statue had been perfectly sculpted.
La cerimonia si svolgera’ il 24 Giugno 2007 alle 11.00 presso il Santuario del Santissimo Crocifisso in Nemi.
Il Santuario del Santissimo Crocifisso fu costruito nel 1637 per volontà del signore di Nemi di allora, Mario Frangipane, ed è annesso al Convento che fu dei francescani inizialmente, ora dei mercedari.
Originariamente ospitava la cappella del Convento ed era dedicato alla Madonna poiché vi fu portata l'Icona di Versacarro. In seguito fu intitolato al Crocifisso perché vi fu installato il Crocifisso ligneo opera di frate Vincenzo da Bassiano. Narra la legenda che il frate non riuscendo a realizzare degnamente il volto del Cristo, decise di pregare ed andare a dormire per poi risvegliarsi il mattino seguente e con stupore constatare che il volto della statua era perfettamente scolpito.
